I don’t think it’s with my AC recirculating
Sponsored
I have a service appointment schedule for later this month. I'll let you known how it goes.I have the same problem - whistling only when air recirculation was active? Were you able to resolve this? What was the fix? I hadn't taken it in to SC since I keep postponing the appointment (I pushed it out, not the SC). Will likely have the SC address this in Jan.
Excellent advise and I second the painters tape. Just went through this experiment (gaffer tape works well too) with our C-Max to isolate where the wind noise was coming from after a collision repair (we've had to take it to the shop that did the repair repeatedly and they claim it is gone, but it isn't).I can total relate to how this is annoying on any vehicle much less one at this price point.
Try using a painters tape to tape up seams on driver side. Until you eliminate the wind noise. Once you do, each day remove one section until the noise comes back. Hopefully should isolate where it's coming from.
Other option is sell the vehicle of course. Unfortunately service is limited in how much time they can spend diagnosing these types of issues (NVH) and they are slammed right now. Not making excuses just stating the current situation.
Mine used to be quiet and developed bad wind noise around the driver side triangle window at some point. Really annoying. I haven't yet had it in to try to get it fixed though. So it's definitely a thing. This is the comment.
My R1T (early 2022 build) had its triangle windows replaced but the wind noise persists. I‘ve had several loaners since, with later build dates, and they ARE quite WRT wind noise from the door & windows.
So to everyone who claims it’s normal because:
“It’s an EV…”
“It’s a rolling brick…”
“It’s not a luxury vehicle…”
“Well, I don’t notice it…”
go pound sand!
Also, read the account of the guy who just got his R1T back after getting T-boned. They replaced his door and he commented that the new door is way quieter than the old one.
They did correct that particular issue by reprogramming the robot to not apply as much pressure so that plastic piece sticks slightly above the glass roof.Mine is loud above 45. Liveable so I haven't done anything.
Sadly last winter i left it out and i got a ton of snow on it. Brushed it off as best I could and drove it. It was dead quiet at 65mph. That tells me that it can be quiet and made me a little upset lol.
For me, almost positive it is the part in front of the glass roof. In early builds they had a tendency to push down too hard when adding the piece and the glass roof sticks up a few mm.
Not sure if they ever corrected the process.
Amen, brother. They replaced my triangle window, jammed foam in there, nothing changes it so I stopped asking. I used to claim it's just normal... Until I got a silent loaner. 80mph on the highway and I would only hear it if it was a crosswind. In my truck, anything over 45 is like background noise from the non-existent AM radio. This is the comment.

less than a day??? ugh I heard horror stories of a long time when the issue was first "discovered". I'll have to use some tape to see if that's the cause of mine.My earlier build R1T had noise from where the glass roof meets the fascia. On the driver's side front corner, the glass roof was a bit too high. On the passenger side, the fascia was a too high. The Denver RSC found it and had it corrected in less than a day. Once they pointed it out it was pretty obvious to see the cause.
Good luck.

In my many experiences with loaner vehicles (9 times) I would say VINs above 12,000 (R1T) are much less noisy than VINs below. Unfortunately my VIN is early 7,000s and is noisy. But it is "within spec" according to the Normal SC. To be fair they did replace those front forward windows and helped some. Before that it was awful. My $25,000 Subaru Forester with the cvt is quieter. My 2nd one is actually very quiet. So yeah, they _can_ make them quiet.
