I had a rock hit my windshield on the freeway and unfortunately it is beyond repair and will need replacement.

Today the service line quoted me $3800 to replace it at the service center - $2000 for the part + labor.

this sounds like 2x what others on here have paid- any ideas if things have changed, or is the rep misinformed?

Have your insurance cover it under comp. Should only cost you what your deductible is.

Glass insurance is a must these days. If you don't have it, you can try using comprehensive if you have it and your carrier allows (some exclude glass in comprehensive unless part of other damage)

I think you're being double charged for something. My initial work order showed 2 glass charges. My recent replacement was $1,883.33 which includes tax.

Yes will do I have full glass coverage- but still don’t want to be overcharged!

Anyone had a certified collision center do the glass?

Thanks! That was my expectation so I’ll have them look again.

Unless you have Rivian insurance or a special connection with the SC folks, you should consider using a company that specializes in auto glass repair. It will be less, even if you want the OEM glass.

The problem is, Rivian hasnt made the calibration settings and glass available to companies like Safelite. Without the calibration settings, satellite won't touch it.

This is plain wrong on Rivian's part. We have had several windshields replaced by Safelite while traveling on RV camping trips. Rivian not providing the required information is a great disservice to their customers. One of my broken windshields took place in Arizona near the California state line. This break rendered my tow vehicle barely drivable. I was able to get back to Lake Havasu City where Safelite replaced my windshield. If this happened in your Rivian, you would be severely screwed.

Rivian needs to come back down to earth with repair costs ASAP because you can make the greatest vehicles on the planet.. but if insurances rates are so super high because of $41K volleyball size dents in a rear quarter panel and $3,800 windshields no one will buy them!

We've already established the windshield isn't $3800. 2 people (me included) have shared a cost of 1800-1900.
